Crane Dishware
Story of the Crane (Tsuru)

There is an old saying in Japan that a crane lives for 100 years and the turtle for 1000 years and so these two creatures are iconic symbols in Japanese culture representing longevity. Of course they don't live anywhere near this long but the saying still lingers in the folklore of Japan. Given the fact that cranes are also known to mate for life; the bird also represents fidelity. With such good karma surrounding the crane, we see many symbols of it in the artwork, stories, clothing and dishware of Japan. Many people choose gifts with a depiction of a crane on them for weddings and anniversaries as shown in the example of a sushi set in the picture.
